All our services come with a high level of expertise and consultation.


We custom blend to order, so our salt does not sit around in hot warehouses that can cause the salt to "brick up" due to adsorbing ambient humidity.

We blend in large ribbon blenders on load cells, so you can be assured our composition is as promised!

Custom Blends

Custom Blend Molten Salts

Molten Salt Supply offers custom blends of "Butting Salt" that is often a 50-50 blend of NaNO2 (Sodium Nitrite) and KNO3 (Potassium Nitrate).

​

This blend, with a melting point of 310F, is recommended when adding molten salt back to a system that has had NaNO2(Sodium Nitrite) oxidize to NaNO3 (Sodium Nitrate), which raises the melting point.

​

Adding a blend of salt that does not include a component that is not needed (NaNO3) will lower the melting point of your system, moving the overall salt composition toward the original desired blend.

Molten Salt Supply can help with both existing solar systems and the design of new Concentrated Solar Power Plants (CSPs).

In addition to Sodium and Potassium based salt blends, solar power applications can also benefit from using Calcium-based salt blends. 

​

Adding Calcium Carbonate (Ca(NO3)2 to a Sodium Nitrate (NaNO3) and Potassium Nitrate (KNO3) blend has distinct advantages, including a lowered melting point, higher thermal stability, wider operational window, and cost efficiency over other blends.  It can also result in improved thermal performance by increasing the energy density, which allows for smaller quantities to store the same amount. 

RECYCLE OPTIONS

Molten Salt Supply has experience "rehoming" molten salts from industrial systems to other industries that uses similar salts. "Spent" salt must be free of Hexavalent chrome CR(VI)/Cr6+ and not have excessive sodium carbonates.The first step in evaluating a recycle opportunity is to Contact Us to arrange for salt testing. We will also need a sample to provide for potential 3rd party users to do their own testing. Salt for recycling is best handled in steel drums.
